It has an extremely high refractive index and an optical dispersion that is greater than that of a diamond. It is not, however, as hard as a diamond; it only ranks 5 to 5.5 on the Mohs' hardness scale, making it relatively easy to damage. Care needs to be taken when working with these stones or wearing them in everyday "at risk" jewelry like rings and bracelets.

      "the presentation at the show was a seek peak in to a world of man made materials which were previously unknown to me as gemstones. I am very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the "new creation" which really appears to be that of the champaign diamonds. My husband really liked the idea of a man made material which could be a gemstone, he is the technical type and likes those kinds of inventions. I now have a new stone which will someday be mounted as my 31 st. anniversary present."
