Product Description for Min .65ct 7x5mm Oval Paraiba Tourmaline

Tourmaline was named after "turmali", the Sinhalese word for "mixed", probably because of the variety of colors it's found in and the fact that it can be bi-, tri- or parti-colored. Tourmaline ranks a tough 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs' scale of hardness. It is the national gemstone of the U.S. but is found all over the world, with colors varying depending on its origin. Indicolite is the name for the deep blue to greenish-blue variety, and rubellite is the pink-red color.

"This is not a large stone, but my initial reaction upon receiving it was "wow!" It's a nice blue-green color. I haven't quite decided what to do with it yet, but just pulling it out and looking at it periodically is pleasurable. I think it would look very nice in a ring, probably as the only stone."
