    Most varieties of quartz are prized for having few or no inclusions, which increases their value; rutilated quartz is more valuable and sought after because of its inclusions. These "inclusions" are golden needles of rutile that form different patterns inside the stone, sometimes referred to as "Venus hair." Each pattern is as different as two snowflakes are from each other, and some of them are remarkably beautiful. It is a great collector's stone and ranks 7 on Mohs' hardness scale.

    "I was looking forward to receiving this " Cat's Eye Rutilated Quartz " cabachon-cut stone. What a disappointment! The stone I received had a patch of the rutile needles going horizontally on it that didn't go all the way to the bottom of each side of the stone. The large areas of the stone with no rutile needles were opaque, greyish-white(very unattractive). I ordered the 20 mm. scroll pendant casting, from JTV, and a couple of different sizes of these hoping one would fit ( they're sold mm. varies). This one measured 19.80 mm, so it would fit in the 20 mm casting. Too bad it didn't look like the ones on the TV or internet: otherwise, I think it would have made quite a striking pendant.$249.99 is just outrageous for a not too attractive piece of quartz, in my opinion."

    Quartz is one of the most common gem families and can be found all around the world. Quartz comprises several different groups of gems from crystalline quartz (crystals viewable by the naked eye) and crypto-crystalline (microscopic crystals). Crystalline quartz includes amethyst, aventurine, rock crystal, blue quartz, citrine, hawk’s eye, prasiolite, quartz cat’s eye, smoky quartz, rose quartz, and tiger’s eye. Crypto-crystalline quartz is also known as chalcedony and includes agate, bloodstone, carnelian, chyrsoprase, jasper, moss agate, onyx and sard.
