Good and Bad, June 24, 2008

"In the picture, it looked more brushed/satin finished on the gold, but in reality, is just polished/shiney. Is it possible to get too many rutile needles??? This stone is full of them. Not sure I like the checkerboard cut of the stone. At first I could not figure out why the stone had such a yellowish cast overall, when others I'd seen were clearer. Turns out, the casting of the setting is solid under the stone, so you get no light reflecting through or from under the stone. Guess from the standpoint of the amount of gold you get, it's a good thing, but not sure it's so good for the look of the stone, which would probably be a real winner if the light could go through it better. Overall, the setting is rather boring--could have used some brushed finished, or a wider band, or some detail on the band. But for the price, and considering how long I have searched for one that fit all my criteria--namely that I liked it, had visible needles, and that I could afford it, think I will end my search with this one."

"I was kind of skeptical about this ring because of the size of the stone and also being set in 14kt gold for this price. I was pleasantly surprised at how beautiful the stone was and the checkerboard cutting makes it even better. The electroform makes the ring fit like a comfort fit band. I've seen rutilated quartz elsewhere for much more. Thanks JTV!"

"I loved the setting and feel of this ring, but it was so cloudy that you could not tell it was a rutilated quartz."
