Some variety of chalcedony is found in all 50 of the United States, including agate, bloodstone, carnelian, and onyx. Being among the earliest raw materials used knives, tools, and other implements by mankind, chalcedony ranks a tough 7 on Mohs' hardness scale.

    "This gemstone was a lovely color, but it really had no POP. The stone looked dull and really kind of fake. The other Chalcedoneys have shine and a glow. Not this one. Just my opinion. Maybe if it had been a larger stone it would have had more POP but this just didn't do it for me. After listening to Scott rant and rave about the beauty of this stone, I felt that I really NEEDED to see it for myself. Was a big let down. Mine went back."

    "the Paraiba Chalcedony is a mystical stone with an inner light that is amazing. I have made earrings, a ring, and now a pendant. I think it turned out beautifully, although the picture does not do it justice. My camera is just not made for close-up photography.
    If you are considering a Paraiba Chalcedony, don't hesitate, it is a most beautiful and interesting stone that draws attention."

    Chalcedony is a species name for all cryptocrystalline (fine-grained) quartzes as well as the name of a specific gemstone in that species. The actual chalcedony gemstones come in a range of blue-white-gray hues.
    Chalcedony is listed as one of the stones in the foundation of the city walls of the New Jerusalem in Revelation (21:19).
    Its durability, beauty, and abundance made chalcedony one of the earliest raw materials used by humans.
    Originally shaped into knives, tools, and containers, chalcedony eventually was used as an adornment, sometimes even carved into cameos.
    Sources for chalcedony include Brazil, India, Madagascar, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, Uruguay, and the United States (California).




    Chalcedony represents a family of fine-grained (cryptocrystalline) quartz crystals including agate, chyrsoprase, bloodstone, jasper, carnelian, moss agate, onyx, and sard, as well as one variety known specifically as chalcedony. On Mohs’ scale of hardness, all chalcedonies are 6.5 – 7. In its natural state, chalcedony has a waxy or dull luster.
