Product Description for 1.00ctw Mixed Round Irradiated Black DiamondThe name "diamond" comes from the Greek word "adamas", meaning "the unconquerable." Diamond earned this named as the hardest gemstone, ranking a 10 on the Mohs' scale--the highest rank possible. Diamond's cutting resistance is 140 times greater than ruby and sapphire, the next hardest stones on the scale. Irradiation treatment is sometimes used to enhance the color of diamonds. During this treatment, the stone is exposed to high-energy sources (like electrons) to create wonderful colors.

"This is just what I wanted. The stones weren't very big but what can you expect for $30. This was my first purchase from jtv and I'm very satisfied! Some of the stones were chipped but the larger ones were fine! If you're looking for small black diamonds, you cant go wrong with these!"

"I tend to agree with the other buyers, stones were very small - I may order another one just to see if I can at least get one good sized one."

"I would consider this a pretty good buy for these diamonds. They are not of the quality of some of the diamonds I purchase from some of my other sources but the price is not as expensive either. On the average I will spend $15.00 to $20.00 (wholesale) for a .20 black diamond of good quality, so I consider this a pretty good buy for what I'm getting."

Fast Facts
| Diamond is the hardest known gemstone on earth. |
| In 1477, Archduke Maximillian gave his betrothed a ring set with a diamond as a love token, making it the first recorded diamond engagement ring. |
| Diamond comes from the Greek word “adamas” meaning invincible. |
| Some beautiful purple color garnets will often be found in kimberlite (blue ground) soil samples in diamond rich areas and called diamond indicators. |
As diamonds are formed by nature, most naturally develop minute imperfections known as inclusions. A diamond is considered “clean” if a trained eye cannot see inclusions when viewing the diamond through a color corrected lens at 10 times magnification. |
|
Diamond is crystallized carbon, the only gem composed of a single element. The most popular diamonds are traditionally colorless, but they can also be found in yellow and brown colors. Although much rarer, diamonds known as “fancies” also come in blue, red, pink, green, orange, black, lavender and purple. On Mohs’ scale of hardness, diamond is the world’s hardest substance at 10. It has a high luster and primary sources include South Africa, Namibia, Australia, Botswana, Russia, Zaire, Brazil, Ghana, Angola, Central African Republic and Canada.
