      The name "amethyst" comes from the Greek word "amethystos" meaning "not drunken." Greeks believed adding ground-up amethysts to their wine would prevent intoxication. Amethysts range from pale lilac (sometimes called Rose de France) to deep purple, which are the most valuable. Amethyst is a 7 on the Mohs' scale, making it a durable stone for jewelry, and is mined in Brazil, Uruguay, Bolivia, Madgascar, Mexico, Zambia, Namibia and the U.S.

      "Darling charmer in a pinkish toned lilac. Quantum cutting sets off this color perfectly. I love the cool, clear soft color. Reminds me of that special lilac bush by the back door which gave off a heavenly scent every spring. This is going to be a stunning ring sure to bring many complements."

      "The ctw I received was 7.58 oval cut. I really like the checkerboard. The color shown was different than the gem I received, which had a slight pinkish color. I think this is a real bargain for the price. It's a fun gem just to look at!"
