    Bixbite is rare red beryl, ranging from orange-red through deep red shades to purple-red. Bixbite's cousins in the beryl family include a range of colorful stones like aquamarine, emerald, heliodor, morganite, and goshenite. It ranks 7.5 to 8 on Mohs' hardness scale, making it a durable stone. Named for mineral collector Maynard Bixby, bixbite is found only in a few locations in the western U.S. and possibly in Mexico. Gem-quality bixbite is incredibly rare.

    "Always wanted some bixbite for the collection. Ordered this stone and a companion stone which was described similarly but offered for about 1/3 the price. Although this stone was pretty for the significant difference in price I was expecting clarity or a step up in carat size. Although billed as a .33 min both stones were 0.33 dead on. The "cheaper" stone was about equally clear and apprasied out for nearly as much. Still well worth having even such a small stone in your collection (most of the bixbite you will find available is in this size range or even smaller)."
