Product Description for Approximate 6.0ct 16x12mm Oval Smoky Quartz.Smoky quartz is a medium to dark brown variety of translucent quartz. This type of quartz has mistakenly been called "smoky topaz" in the past. It may be found with rutile needle inclusions and ranks 7 on the Mohs' hardness scale. Smoky quartz can be found in Brazil, Madagascar, Russia, Scotland, Switzerland, and Ukraine. Smoky quartz is used as rock crystal as well as faceted into unusual cuts.

"The stone is a uniformly dark brownish-smoke color, but not so dark that it doesn't sparkle. The cut is a little off so it isn't exactly oval, but close enough. Now all I need is for JTV to sell a pendant casting large enough for it."
