    The name "emerald" comes from the Greek "smaragdos" meaning "green stone." Except the rare few, emeralds have inclusions that are generally accepted as well as treatments, which are normally stated and should not be a deterrent to purchasing. Even though they have a hardness of 7.5 to 8 on Mohs' scale, emeralds are sometimes brittle. Emeralds should only be cleaned with warm soapy water and a soft brush. Avoid ultrasonic and steam cleaners, which can cause breaks in emerald jewelry.

    "Kinda dissappointing but my stone was clean. It is a light colored stone. I ordered two thinking I would keep one for each child but instead only kept the nicer of the two to make a pendant for me since I am a St. Patrick's Birthday and that is a nice clean green. The other went back."
