    The name "emerald" comes from the Greek "smaragdos" meaning "green stone." Except the rare few, emeralds have inclusions that are generally accepted as well as treatments, which are normally stated and should not be a deterrent to purchasing. Even though they have a hardness of 7.5 to 8 on Mohs' scale, emeralds are sometimes brittle. Emeralds should only be cleaned with warm soapy water and a soft brush. Avoid ultrasonic and steam cleaners, which can cause breaks in emerald jewelry.

    LOOK HOW CLEAN THE EMERALD IS!

    "Mine turned out to weight 7.50ct. It was stunning and so very clean - only very slight inclusions that you had to look for to notice. However a jeweler actually broke an entire corner off the emerald while setting it. I was in such a hurry to get it set, I took it to a different jeweler because my regualr one was gone on vacation- BIG MISTAKE!!! After a long drawn out process, I finally settled up with the jeweler on what we both agreed was fair. I ended up using the settlement to buy a bigger emerald and came out better in the end. Also, I kept the broken emerald and had it recut to a 5ct and mounted by my regualr jeweler and it turned out exqusite. I actually bought a scroll pendant casting from jtv and had my jeweler remove the bail and use it as the mounting head to give it that regal extra touch. So my advice is to be cautious when you are having high end stones set, always ask your jeweler if they are insured and if they will assume responsibility for your stone. Some jewelers can take out insurance on your stone before they work on it for a fair cost. Discuss what your stone is worth before they work on it, if you can, get it appraised first by a GIA certified gemologist, that was the only lifesaver in my situation. JTV CAN SEND OUT YOUR ITEMS FOR APPRAISALS BY AN INDEPENDANT GEMOLOGIST FOR ONLY $50 on items you buy from them! And dont tell the jeweler what you paid for it, your stones could always be "a gift".
