    The name "amethyst" comes from the Greek word "amethystos" meaning "not drunken." Greeks believed adding ground-up amethysts to their wine would prevent intoxication. Amethysts range from pale lilac (sometimes called Rose de France) to deep purple, which are the most valuable. Amethyst is a 7 on the Mohs' scale, making it a durable stone for jewelry, and is mined in Brazil, Uruguay, Bolivia, Madgascar, Mexico, Zambia, Namibia and the U.S.

    "I have wanted to own an African Amethyst for a while now, and I thought I had picked out the perfect stone. When I recieved the stone, it was visibly scratched on the top. And not just one scratch either. Where was quality control on this one? I am gun-shy to order another one."

    "I was blown away by these trillion amethyst stones!! The color is fabulous and I'm SUPER PICKY!! I love them! The cut is wonderful, the stones are clear with no incusions I could see. The price is unbelievable for the quality of the stones. I'm just sorry I didn't buy more! These stones were definate winners, JTV!
