    The name "amethyst" comes from the Greek word "amethystos" meaning "not drunken." Greeks believed adding ground-up amethysts to their wine would prevent intoxication. Amethysts range from pale lilac (sometimes called Rose de France) to deep purple, which are the most valuable. Amethyst is a 7 on the Mohs' scale, making it a durable stone for jewelry, and is mined in Brazil, Uruguay, Bolivia, Madgascar, Mexico, Zambia, Namibia and the U.S.

    "This gem for the value is a good buy. The color is good, quality good, overall rating is excellent. Of couse I would like to see lower prices. Over the year I have been wathing JTV the prices are going up and soon I will not be able to get some of the gems because of pricing. But I'm grateful for the time I have had with JTV because I learned alot as well as have a great collection of gems."
