Product Description for Min 1.25ct 8x8mm Trillion African Amethyst-A4T119

The name "amethyst" comes from the Greek word "amethystos" meaning "not drunken." Greeks believed adding ground-up amethysts to their wine would prevent intoxication. Amethysts range from pale lilac (sometimes called Rose de France) to deep purple, which are the most valuable. Amethyst is a 7 on the Mohs' scale, making it a durable stone for jewelry, and is mined in Brazil, Uruguay, Bolivia, Madgascar, Mexico, Zambia, Namibia and the U.S.

"I purchased two of these gemstones and they are beautiful. Both are a deep grape color with lighter redish-purple highlight. There is alot of life and sparkle in the stones. A nice size stone. I am not sure if I will make earrings or a ring and pendant. At this price I may purchase two more and make a suit of earrings, ring and pendant. I highly recommend the African amethyst for it's rich color."

"Love the deep purple color. I love the african amethyst. The only problem is your site doesn't have castings for these stones in this size and shape."

"I love amethyst because it's my birthstone, but these African amethysts are stunning. I have purchases several different ones from JTV, and every one of them have been extremely dark with the flashes of blue under the light. They make all of my other amethysts look bad and that's difficult to do, because I do own some beautiful amethyst. I will not be giving this away and I'm very sure it will go into jewelry very soon."

"I purchased this gemstone for a dear close friend who's birthday is in February. She absolutely loves Amethyst, but most of the one's I have seen her wear over the years are lab created pieces. I really surprised her with this one!! It is the richest , deepest pool of color I have ever seen. It is absolutely regal!! I hope Denise feels like a queen owning it. Who knows, maybe she will become a collector of gemstones as well?!"
