    Yag is short for yttrium aluminum garnet. Yag is a manmade gemstone that, like CZ, does not have a counterpart in nature. Yag has the same basic crystal structure of garnet but is not garnet. Dopants are added to the mix to create the various colors that yag is created in. It's a fun and affordable diamond stimulant ranking a durable 8 on Mohs' hardness scale.

    "I loved this little semi mount and had big plans to set a tanzanite I had purchased a while back from JTV...the diamonds were clean and bright, setting was comfortable and I'd say it was a great value at the price. The only thing, and you may want to consider this, in selecting a stone to set in it...my jeweler couldn't set my particular Tanzy in the setting because there wasn't sufficient depth or space for the culet. It would hit the diamonds on the bottom. So you have to have a very shallow stone that doesnt have culet (point at bottom of gemstone) that is too long. It won't fit! Too bad. I'll save it until I can find the right stone."
