    Prehnite is a pale yellowish to light green stone, sometimes even resembling jade, but prehnite often displays a unique glow or sheen. It was named after its discoverer, Hendrik Van Prehn, a Dutchman who brought prehnite from Africa to Europe in the late 1700s. Prehnite ranks a 6 to 6.5 on Mohs' hardness scale and primary sources include Australia, Scotland, and South Africa (Kalahari).

    "When I received these, I purchased two, I struggled whether to return them or not. I checked the computer and there were no more left of this size and price point. While they are beautiful stones, one had a large crack across the table and the other had such a deep pavillion that when I tried to snap set into a pendant the point was pinching my finger and it would not set.

    I knew that wouldn't do. I brought them in and showed my mother and she said she could not see the crack. I told her I hated to send back such beautiful stones. Since I purchased them for us I asked if she would mind if I set the cracked one for her in the pendant. It isn't as noticeable set. She was very happy with it. The other one with the high pavillion I was sitting there asking her what I should do with it. She noticed the ring I had on. It was a 10mm mystic topaz. She said, "you know, I like that stone better than the one in the ring. Why not pop that one out and put in the new stone?" (She is always influencing me in this way.)

    I tried it. It fit like it was meant to be there and viola! I have a new ring. I set the mystic in the pendant and I actually looks much better there. So while I was going to send back the stones, they both found new and pretty homes and everyone is happy. Thanks Mom!!!"
