Ametrine, which ranks a 7 on Mohs' hardness scale, is typically rectangular cut to show the color split, but it can be cut to blend colors through the stone. The major supplier of ametrine is the Anahi Mine in Bolivia, which became famous in the 17th century when it was given as dowry to a conquistador upon marriage. It was introduced to Europe through the conquistador's gifts to the Spanish queen.

"Color split was good, but mm size was not as stated - it was not a 7x5mm, but turned out to be something like 6x4 - it fell straight through the casting I had. Had to return it because it was not the size stated - a pity, because the color split was good"

"i have always wanted one of these...this one is a great deal...it has wonderful clarity...the color saturation is excellent...the split isnt exactly 50/50 more like 55/45 but that is ok...for the price and size of this one it is wonderful."
