    Tanzanite was discovered in 1967. It has a unique violet-blue to blue color that only Ceylon sapphire and iolite come close to matching, with red-violet flashes. Tanzanite ranks a respectable 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs' scale, but loose stones and jewelry like rings and bracelets need to be treated with care to prevent damage. Tanzanite is only found in one place in the world, Tanzania, and the continued availability of tanzanite is uncertain, which increases its rarity and its price.

    "The stone I received was nothing lke the gem that Dawn and Valerie displayed on the air! It was very very pale lilac although it was free of inclusions. It also did not measure 6.5 mm. This time, I did get what I paid for. I returned it immediately."

    "This one is going back! It was small and very light in color. I took it to a jeweler and he appraised it at less then what I paid for it! He was able to get me a larger stone in a setting for less then it would have cost me for this stone and a setting! LIVE & LEARN!!"

    "The tanzanite I received weighs .89 and is perfectly clear, moderate in color, and with a deep enough pavillion to give good sparkle. Once a stone like this is set, it will appear darker. To get a tanzanite that is close to a carat in weight for such a low price is kind of crazy at this point. There ought to be something wrong with it, but there isn't! Try it - you can't go wrong with this one."
