"I have never been an aquamarine fan, but had to have one of these Santa Maria stones. I am so glad I bought one. I was pleasantly surprised to see the sparkle and fire coming out of the gem box before I even opened it. It is a beautiful stone. I wish I had more. Last night on a very pricey jewelry channel, they were selling the same stones(old mine stones they said) for more than I paid. I think my stone is better."

Capture the vibrant blues of the sea in a stone and you have Aquamarine. From light blue to bluish green to deep blue, Aquamarine offers irresistible ranges of sea blue colors.
A member of the beryl family (also known for emeralds), Aquamarine was referred to as sea-green beryl in ancient texts.
American consumers have a very refined taste for aquas preferring the cool bluish tones. Many Europeans, including English, still prefer the greenish-blue (sea foam) variety.
The two most important sources for Aquamarine are Brazil and Africa.

Lore
Ancient sailors traveled with aquamarine crystals, believing that it would insure a safe passage, and often slept with the stones under their pillow to insure sound sleep. They believed the siren’s (mermaid) fish-like lower body was made of aquamarine.
