"Demantoid" is a Dutch word meaning "similar" to diamond, given it due to its brilliance and ability disperse light into all colors, even better than diamonds do. Found in the Ural Mountains of Russia, it is the most expensive of the garnet family and one of the most valuable of all gemstones. The most valuable color is dark green, but it is also found in yellowish-green and green. Demantoids with a rare horsetail inclusion are highly prized by collectors. It is 6.5 to 7.5 on the Mohs' scale.
