"For the price I have paid for one (1) pearl for my daughter's add-a-pearl necklace, I got 100 inches pearls. The whole stand is exquisite. I will never regret this purchase. If I tire of wearing them, I may have them made into several shorter strands for my daughters. If you are considering buying this item, - DO IT! You won't regret it."

"I am a 'BIG woman' and the standard size of necklaces and strings of pearls don't fit! I have always wanted pearls, and I knew that even if I got a string about 22 inches, because of my own size, they would look really tiny and like a child's necklace. I have never liked the big bulky matronly pearls of the larger sizes and could certainly never afford them. But I really wanted pearls to wear on my wedding day and thought these might do. They are perfect for the job, although the pearls are very small, because there are so very many of them they look abundand even on my large body. I wear size 26 clothes, but I can still wrap these 3 times for long strands, 4 times for medium and 5 times for close to my throat! They look gorgeous with just a white tshirt and jeans, they look stunning with anything more formal and I know they will look perfect with my wedding outfit. Anyone my size will be delighted with these as a way to wear pearls and look sexy and elegant in them, I can't recommend them too highly to anyone, particularly larger ladies. While wearing them to lunch last week, it was a real treat to have a skinny, pretty young woman be really envious of something I was wearing *smiling*. The pearls themselves are lovely, very rich and glowing. I haven't examined them under maginification, but to my own eye, they look close to flawless, close to real 'rounds' and beautifully matched. The are, as some reviewers have commented, a little stiff to begin with, but you will want to wear them straight away and they will soften quickly. They DO catch the hairs on the back of my neck sometimes, but I can take it for the pleasure of wearing them. The arrived in a lovely JTV box, good enough to give as a gift to anyone."

"I bought these for a gift for my stepmom, who doesn't own any nice jewelry much less pearls; and lets face it, every woman needs a strand of pearls. And im so glad i got these for her. they are small and dainty yet very versatile. When they say endless, they really mean it. I tried them on, to get a feel for them, you can wrap them around 3 times and they still hang down to chest level. Im sure she will love them. She is a simple down to earth woman would probably never wear a lot of jewelry, yet im quite confident she will love these. There are several pearls with small dimples and imperfection but are not noticeable unless you are looking for flaws, and considering how many pearls are in the strand it would be impractical for them all to be perfect. The size and constancy of color is spot on. and for the price you cant beat it. I cant wait to see her reaction when she opens her present."

"Pearls are the staple of my wardrobe. I have lots of them. Fresh and saltwater. I have bought the majority of the pearls that I have from Jtv. The majority of them are of good quality and have appraised for much more than than I paid. These pearls are perfect for High fashon looks, they are very versatile for style change. They can be worn in dress down or formal occaisons. The pearls I recieved are knotted every four to six pearls, and if they break you will loose a few pearls. Warning, If you have them reknotted it will cost you more than the inital purchase. Have fun wearing them, for a costume jewelry price you get the real thing! You can't go wrong eather way!"

Fast Facts
| Once the price of pearls was so extravagant they caused wars and even funded a war, but today cultured pearls have made this “queen of gems” available to everyone. |
| Once, all pearls were only natural, most recovered from the Persian Gulf, occurring once in every 15,000 oysters. |
| Pearls form in the mollusk in a variety of shapes, including: round (spherical), off-round, semi-baroque, baroque, rice shaped, button or disk, and many fancy shapes created by the insertion of specially shaped nucleus beads. |
| Many royal families had an obsession with pearls. Some ancient Romans covered whole pieces of furniture in pearl, and in some monarchies only members of the royal were legally allowed to wear pearls. |
When light touches the pearl, it travels through all the layers of nacre, and each tiny crystal reflects the light like miniature prisms. The end result? A lustrous, breathtaking pearl.
|
|
A pearl is a lustrous, organic gem produced by saltwater oysters, freshwater mussels and occasionally by some shellfish. It exhibits a range of colors from white to pink, silver, cream, peach, gold, green, blue and black. Oh Mohs’ scale of hardness, pearl is 2.5 4.5. Primary sources of Sea Pearls include Persian Gulf; Gulf of Manaar; along the coasts of Madagascar, Burma (Myanmar), and the Philippines; many islands in the South Pacific, northern Australia; and the coastal lines of Central and northern South America; and some small beds in Japan. Primary sources of freshwater Pearls include United States, some in Europe (restricted in Central Europe).
