Product Description for Min 3.00ct 10x8mm Oval Paraiba Tourmaline, Erv = $19,200.00Tourmaline was named after "turmali", the Sinhalese word for "mixed", probably because of the variety of colors it's found in and the fact that it can be bi-, tri- or parti-colored. Tourmaline ranks a tough 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs' scale of hardness. It is the national gemstone of the U.S. but is found all over the world, with colors varying depending on its origin. Indicolite is the name for the deep blue to greenish-blue variety, and rubellite is the pink-red color.

"I think paraibas are at the top of the list of "beyond beautiful" stones. I did buy this one; and it is gorgeous. I also had it appraised at JTV. The appraisal came back at $12120.00; the ERV says $19,000 plus. I know that JTV "low-balls" appraisals, so it might indeed be worth it. I am returning it, only because I bought another 2 months ago; smaller carat weight, but bigger appraisal. Also, bigger price. : ) This stone is lovely, and for the price is SO WELL worth it."
