    The name "amethyst" comes from the Greek word "amethystos" meaning "not drunken." Greeks believed adding ground-up amethysts to their wine would prevent intoxication. Amethysts range from pale lilac (sometimes called Rose de France) to deep purple, which are the most valuable. Amethyst is a 7 on the Mohs' scale, making it a durable stone for jewelry, and is mined in Brazil, Uruguay, Bolivia, Madgascar, Mexico, Zambia, Namibia and the U.S.

    "Some Amethyst is purple to the blue side this one is purple to the red side and is just gorgeous. There are not enough adjectives to desribe it. You have to see this color to appreciate it. Again my ct. weight is 2.00, .40 more than what was said to be sent for this stone. You realy can get lost in the color and cut. Amethyst is one of my most favorite gemstones and I appreciate a good one, this is a good one, Sparkle splenty too."

    "I thought for 20 bucks that this was going to one of those, 'You get what you pay for' buys, however I was pleasently surprised to get a beautifully cut medium purple stone that will look fantastic in the ring setting that I had in mind. Wow - This one was truly a steal - Thanks again JTV!"
