    Tanzanite was discovered in 1967. It has a unique violet-blue to blue color that only Ceylon sapphire and iolite come close to matching, with red-violet flashes. Tanzanite ranks a respectable 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs' scale, but loose stones and jewelry like rings and bracelets need to be treated with care to prevent damage. Tanzanite is only found in one place in the world, Tanzania, and the continued availability of tanzanite is uncertain, which increases its rarity and its price.

    "The stone doesn't look like it's .60 ct. It actually looks bigger. I love the color too. It's a deep purplish blue color. I love it so much, I had it set as a center stone of a custom ring (please see pictures). It's set in 18kt white gold with diamonds surrounding it. The pictures don't do it justice as the ring is so much prettier in person."

    "Received the stone and as usual was pleased with the purchase. I did not receive a blue colored stone as I had wanted... it was more of a purplish colored stone, that could have passed for a amethyst. Returned for an exchange and hopefully the replacement stone will be a nicer shade of blue."

    "Few months ago I bought a tanzanite in trillion shape of min. 1ct
    for which I paid $500 and now I've got this tanzanite for $100
    having the same nice color and clarity.
    This second gem is gone be mounted into a ring for myself.
    And by the way the actual ct. weight is 0.8 ct.
    This stone has a estimate value of$500 so is five times biger value than the price for it."
