"I'm not much into jewelry and my wife isn't either so my review may not carry much weight but my order did not disappoint either of us.
The pearls were uniformly round and radiant. The ear rings have thin shafts which my wife liked because she doesn't wear ear rings much any more and the thin shafts are comfortable in her ears that have closed a little. For some reason only known to her brilliant mind she pulled the velvet like insert from the box and found the metal of the display/carrying box was rusted and was disappointed about that but that is the only negative issue. She is thrilled with her 30th wedding anniversary gift. Thank you!"

"While looking for a strand of pearls, I examined the reviews on all of the many strands of pearls sold by JTV, but couldn't figure out how the strands compared with one another--so I ordered six different sets at once and compared them at home. The results:
MRS010 (9-10 mm freshwater with earrings): the best lustre and color (warm pinkish-white) of all strands, and my choice as best overall strand of pearls. The pearls are not perfectly round and there are some imperfections, but lustre is generally considered the most important attribute of a pearl, and this set wins in that category. The matching earrings are also beautiful.
SBS031 (8.5-9.5 mm freshwater necklace only): the second best overall strand. These pearls are closer to round than MRS010, but the color is a cooler bluish-white and the lustre isn't quite as nice as MRS010--but very close. Slightly fewer imperfections than MRS010. If your first consideration is how close the pearls are to perfectly round, you would prefer this strand.
FBS009 (7-7.5 mm Akoya necklace and earrings): what a disappointment! Poor lustre, and the pearl diameter was too small for my taste. Numerous imperfections for the price. The strand had broken and been retied a few pearls away from the clasp. I would not purchase this strand.
MRS006 (this strand) (7-8 mm freshwater necklace and earrings): I liked the large clasp on this strand best, but this strand had the poorest lustre of all the sets I purchased. Nice size and very close to round on the pearls. Still a nice set for the price.
NVS002 (7-8 mm TRIPLE strand with earrings): Fair lustre, fair size, neat concept, great value. The three strands do not fall in such a way as to be evenly spaced, and the top strand is closer to 16" than 18", but still a lovely set.
OTL003 (6-7 mm DOUBLE strand necklace): Excellent lustre, very warm color. I chose this set over NVS002 as the multi-strand I kept because the lustre and color are so wonderful. These are small in diameter, however (I would not have kept them had they been a single strand, but it works well as a double strand), and these are not as close to round as NVS002, but they are far from being oblong or baroque. A beautiful set."

What luster!,

"These pearls are incredible. The luster on them is breathtaking; I could literally see myself CLEARLY on each and every one of the pearls on the necklace and the earrings. One thing, though, is that these pearls are not quite 9mm. I think they're closer to being large 8mm pearls. But the luster more than makes up for the smaller size. These are gorgeous!"

Pearls not completely round but OK,

"The spring ring clasp is a nice feature which can be used to hang a pendant, as long as it doesn't have too wide a bail. Some of the pearls seemed out of round. I'm not really into natural pearls, so I don't know how perfect they are expected to be in the various price ranges. Not sure if I'll keep this item, think I would rather spend $70 on something else."

Fast Facts
Once the price of pearls was so extravagant they caused wars and even funded a war, but today cultured pearls have made this “queen of gems” available to everyone.
Once, all pearls were only natural, most recovered from the Persian Gulf, occurring once in every 15,000 oysters.
Pearls form in the mollusk in a variety of shapes, including: round (spherical), off-round, semi-baroque, baroque, rice shaped, button or disk, and many fancy shapes created by the insertion of specially shaped nucleus beads.
Many royal families had an obsession with pearls. Some ancient Romans covered whole pieces of furniture in pearl, and in some monarchies only members of the royal were legally allowed to wear pearls.
When light touches the pearl, it travels through all the layers of nacre, and each tiny crystal reflects the light like miniature prisms. The end result? A lustrous, breathtaking pearl.

Primary sources of Sea Pearls include Persian Gulf; Gulf of Manaar; along the coasts of Madagascar, Burma (Myanmar), and the Philippines; many islands in the South Pacific, northern Australia; and the coastal lines of Central and northern South America; and some small beds in Japan.
