"My mom's birthstone is aqua so I've seen plenty of it over the years...she has an extensive collection. However, the color of this stone is lovely. Not faded out, very sparkly and no windows. The color is true from center to the edges. I bought two and gave one to a good friend who remarked she didn't know aqua could be this blue. Great value and sets up nice in a yellow gold ring setting. Glad I purchased one for me instead of getting mom's.

"I've purchased many, many aqua's at JTV, through parcels only until I needed this calibration. I was curious about the "Santa Maria" distinction, too. I'm very happy with it for the following reasons: It turned out to be .86 carat, no windows, and its color is saturated for its carat-weight. Oh, one more thing: It sparkles amazingly. Oh, one more thing: The cutting is exceptional. Great value! Get one -- JTV might have the pendant semi-mount still. If not, it's still a true beryl gem."

Aquamarine is a member of the beryl family. It is known for its clear sky-blue color but is also found in a range of dark blues to blue-greens. On Mohs’ scale of hardness, aquamarine is 7.5-8. Its primary sources include Brazil, Russia (the Urals), Australia (Queensland), Burma (Myanmar), China, India, Kenya, Madagascar, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Zambia, Zimbabwe and the United States.
