"This set, in my opinion, is not meant to be one that you actually use for play (although you could, I suppose) it is meant for decorative purposes. It is small, but it is a nice set, and makes a pretty decoration for a small table or other area where you need a little something. If you want one to play on, order the larger version - I believe it comes in black and white or gray and white. But if you really do just want something to use as a decoration, this is perfect."

"After purchasing a similar pink & gray onyx chess set this summer, I was delighted to see the Mexican onyx chess sets again in stock! A favorite of my Father-in-law & brother-in-law, the sets will make great Valentine's Day gifts, evoking fond memories of similar onyx chess sets purchased long ago during family vacations in Mexico. The onyx game board is substantial; the soft colors are neutral and the onyx is attractive, solid and smooth. It's also strong: our first set is played with frequently by my youngest Grandchild who loves it. The resilience of the onyx board is impressive. The chess pieces are equally impressive in beauty, detail, and style. (My grandchild did manage to break one, but only after many months when it dropped unto ceramic tile.) Before purchasing, I wasn't sure the "2 cm" size would be appropriate for gifts, but it's perfect: just right for display on a shelf, or for my Father-in-law's bar, or to place on an end table to enjoy the game. And because our sets have arrived in wonderful condition, very well packaged, I feel comfortable using the direct "mail to" option for gifts. Happy Valentine's Day!"
