    Lapis lazuli gets its name from the Latin "lapis" meaning "a stone" and the Arabic "azul" meaning "blue" (from which the word "azure" comes), literally meaning "blue stone." Lapis lazuli (or just lapis) is bright to deep cobalt blue, often with golden flecks of pyrite. It is found in significant amounts in Afghanistan and Chile, and it ranks a 5 to 5.5 on Mohs' hardness scale.

    "When i saw the the lapis on tv , i thought it was a nice gem . If it looked anything like the screen showed i would be happy.
    All i can say is wow! The deep blue of the Lapis incredible, the pyrite sparkles nicely. Not as much as I would like though. All in all though, with the color the shine and that beautiful checkerboard cut. You just have to be insane to pass this gem up. This stone is going into a vintage style sterling silver setting all 11.0 carats of it. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!"

    "I found this stone to be very unique and interesting. However, the one I received did not have much of the specks in it like the one pictured on the website. The weight of the one I got however, is 13.50ct a whole 3.40ct over. What a nice surprise that was. This is a keeper!"
