Product Description for Min 3.50ct 11x11mm Trillion Russian Lab Alexandrite

Alexandrite is a phenomenal gem known as "emerald by day, ruby by night" because it changes color from green in fluorescent and daylight to red in incandescent light. Ranking 8.5 on Mohs' scale, it's ideal for daily wear. Discovered in 1830 in emerald mines of Russia's Ural Mountains, it was named for Czar Alexander II. Found in Brazil, Sri Lanka, and Tanzania, alexandrite only forms when aluminum/beryllium and chrome (which rarely occurs in nature) come together, accounting for its rarity.

"This is a beautiful stone. I have already made a ring and earrings from them. Had a jewelry clerk comment that they were beautiful Alexandrite, I just thank him and didn't tell him they were lab created. My husband like the stone and purchased this one. I am going to make a pendant out of it. I would highly recommend purchasing this stone. A Perfect Alexandrite Without the Price!"

    Fast Facts

Chrysoberyl is a mineral that produces gemstones ranging from golden-yellow to green-yellow, green, brownish and red. Two prized chrysoberyl gemstones include alexandrite and chrysoberyl cat’s eye. On Mohs’ scale of hardness, it is 8.5, making chrysoberyl among the hardest gemstones. Sources include Brazil, Sri Lanka, Burma (Myanmar), Russia (Urals), Zimbabwe and the United States.

    Color

Chrysoberyl cat’s eye is a highly prized gemstone in the chrysoberyl family. The shortened term “cat’s eye” always refers to chrysoberyl cat’s eye. When cut in a cabochon or dome style, it displays fine, parallel lines of moving light rays that appear similar to the pupil of a cat. On Mohs’ scale of hardness, it is fairly hard at 8.5. Primary sources include Sri Lanka and Brazil as well as China, India, and Zimbabwe.
