      Tsavorite garnet is ranked 6.5 to 7.5 on the Mohs' hardness scale, making it a wonderful gemstone to use in jewelry because it's durable enough to be worn everyday. Like all garnet, tsavorite is untreated, so the magnificent and highly prized color--ranging from beautiful pale green (grossular) to deep evergreen (tsavorite)--is completely natural, thanks to the presence of vanadium. It is found in Kenya, Tanzania, and Madagascar, but 85% of tsavorite garnets are under 1 carat.

      In 1967, British geologist Campbell Bridges was prospecting in northeastern Tanzania when he discovered green grossularite (a member of the garnet family). Today we call these beautiful and highly transparent green gems tsavorite.
      Tsavorites are characterized by a range of brilliant greens from spring-like pale green to intense blue green to deep forest green.




      Tsavorite is a gemstone within the Garnet family.
      It exhibits a green to emerald green color. On Mohs
      scale of hardness, tsavorite is 7-7.5. It has a vitreous
      luster and sources include Kenya and Tanzania.
