    Most varieties of quartz are prized for having few or no inclusions, which increases their value; rutilated quartz is more valuable and sought after because of its inclusions. These "inclusions" are golden needles of rutile that form different patterns inside the stone, sometimes referred to as "Venus hair." Each pattern is as different as two snowflakes are from each other, and some of them are remarkably beautiful. It is a great collector's stone and ranks 7 on Mohs' hardness scale.

    "The gem received does not have a lot of rutile needles (would have liked more), but they are clean and distinct. The quartz is mostly clear with a little cloudiness in one corner - not a big deal for my purpose. BUT - the overall impact of a stone this size with the gold rutile and the perfect emerald cutting is very impressive.

    Will be very easy to set into a pendant, but it will be a real eye-popper as a ring. Can't wait to get this set and see how it sells!"

Crystalline quartz includes amethyst, aventurine, rock crystal, blue quartz, citrine, hawk’s eye, prasiolite, quartz cat’s eye, smoky quartz, rose quartz, and tiger’s eye. Crypto-crystalline quartz is also known as chalcedony and includes agate, bloodstone, carnelian, chyrsoprase, jasper, moss agate, onyx and sard.
