Product Description for Min 9.75ct 18x13mm Oval Paraiba Tourmaline Simulant

Tourmaline was named after "turmali", the Sinhalese word for "mixed", probably because of the variety of colors it's found in and the fact that it can be bi-, tri- or parti-colored. Tourmaline ranks a tough 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs' scale of hardness. It is the national gemstone of the U.S. but is found all over the world, with colors varying depending on its origin. Indicolite is the name for the deep blue to greenish-blue variety, and rubellite is the pink-red color.

"I know this is a simulant. But it has such a wonderful saturation of color and so brilliant a sparkle that I have kept it on my computer desk just so I can look at it often. It will someday be a Big Bold and Beautiful ring. But for now... it is something that I will enjoy just looking at. I truely hope JTV continues to offer this gem in several sizes and shapes because I really would like more of it. I can see a most stunning jewelry set made of this. The picture online does not do it justice... this color is almost electric!!!"

"I am not sure why I purchased a simulant, but I did. It is very pretty, and will make a lovely ring gem if I decide to use it. At this point I am not sure if I will. I do not have any other simulant stones, but, this is very attractive and has nice color and sparkle."
