"Had these reset in yellow gold (which the new screw backs I bought stripped out in 6 mos. and cost me $200). But it was a schemed opportuntiy to get an appraisal from the best jeweler in town. Next appraisal will put them back in jtv's white gold settings. I didn't want stones that looked like cz...these came in at 1.52 ct., 5.75 mm, K color, I1 clarity valued at $2500 per carat. On my ear...they LOOK LIKE REAL DIAMONDS. No one gets close enough to see any inclusions...mine are not cloudy stones and throw light. So I am very happy with turning 1500 into 4000. I definitely validated the purchase with my husband when my appraisal came in!!!"

"Do not believe the stated estimated retail price of $6,000, or the stated mm size of 5.88. I took these earrings to a diamond expert who graded them as G color and I-3 clarity. After careful measurement he determined that they did weigh 1.50 ct., although at first he had doubted this, based on the diameter of 5.70 mm. There is a total of 1.40 Gr. in gold. Possibly there is one pair in the allotment which meets the description by JTV on this item's webpage, but clearly other customers have described diamonds that would not be worth $6,000. However, the price at JTV is still far below the appraised value, and therefore these earrings are worth buying. For some reason they don't sparkle as much as I would have thought, but they look decent enough. There is no visual sign of the inclusions, nor do they look murky or dull. They are just average diamonds suitable for earrings. I plan to have them reset in a leverback style."

Fast Facts
| Diamond is the hardest known gemstone on earth. |
| In 1477, Archduke Maximillian gave his betrothed a ring set with a diamond as a love token, making it the first recorded diamond engagement ring. |
| Diamond comes from the Greek word “adamas” meaning invincible. |
| Some beautiful purple color garnets will often be found in kimberlite (blue ground) soil samples in diamond rich areas and called diamond indicators. |
As diamonds are formed by nature, most naturally develop minute imperfections known as inclusions. A diamond is considered “clean” if a trained eye cannot see inclusions when viewing the diamond through a color corrected lens at 10 times magnification. |
|
Diamond is crystallized carbon, the only gem composed of a single element. The most popular diamonds are traditionally colorless, but they can also be found in yellow and brown colors. Although much rarer, diamonds known as “fancies” also come in blue, red, pink, green, orange, black, lavender and purple. On Mohs’ scale of hardness, diamond is the world’s hardest substance at 10. It has a high luster and primary sources include South Africa, Namibia, Australia, Botswana, Russia, Zaire, Brazil, Ghana, Angola, Central African Republic and Canada.
