    The name "emerald" comes from the Greek "smaragdos" meaning "green stone." Except the rare few, emeralds have inclusions that are generally accepted as well as treatments, which are normally stated and should not be a deterrent to purchasing. Even though they have a hardness of 7.5 to 8 on Mohs' scale, emeralds are sometimes brittle. Emeralds should only be cleaned with warm soapy water and a soft brush. Avoid ultrasonic and steam cleaners, which can cause breaks in emerald jewelry.

    "Ok, I was talking to my mother on the phone the other day and she told me how dad bought her an emerald as a Christmass present and she described something sized like a 3.00ct emerald. That's big! But guess how much my dad paid for the stone? He paid close to $10,000.00. All I can say is, my dad loves my mom. But I bought this 2.00ct Min stone thinking I'll be lucky if I got something even close to nice. Well, the stone is absolutely incredible! It came out to be 2.10ct and it's mostly transparent! When I told my mom about the stone I recieved and how very little I paid for it, she didn't believe me. She said, "you know it's probably fake" HA! No, it's not! And then she said, "you'll show it to me the next time I come for a visit." I bet she's expecting to see a beat up piece of glass. She'll be in shock.
