Product Description for Min .35ct 5.5x5.5mm Trillion TanzaniteTanzanite was discovered in 1967. It has a unique violet-blue to blue color that only Ceylon sapphire and iolite come close to matching, with red-violet flashes. Tanzanite ranks a respectable 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs' scale, but loose stones and jewelry like rings and bracelets need to be treated with care to prevent damage. Tanzanite is only found in one place in the world, Tanzania, and the continued availability of tanzanite is uncertain, which increases its rarity and its price.

"I made this purchase just a few weeks ago. I bought 4, because I felt some might be of lighter color, and this was the case. I kept 2, and returned the other ones. When I weighed them out I got a real surprise, one weighed out at .65ct., and the other at .90ct. They were both what I would call AAA color. I am going too have them mounted with item #To667, which weighed 1.45ct. If you are looking for a great accent stone, this is the one to accent a larger Tanzanite"

"All of my purchases from JTV have been good but this one beats them all. My tanzanite is BEAUTIFUL. I took it for an appraisal within an hour of recieving it. My .35 carat weighed out to be a .57 carat. He graded the color at AA and the clarity is fine. I really didn't expect to get a gem this beautiful for under $100. I am thrilled and delighted with this purchase."

"These are small, obviously, at 1/3 ct but the color is very dark and matches the picture. While they are also good for testing, measuring, and learning with, they could make a small stud earring or be used as very good accent stones, as well."

"I think I may have gotten the bottom of the barrel with this buy. Inventory was low, so it was probably someone’s return. Right off the bat, I noticed that the cut was bad, did not measure 5.5mm x 5.5mm as advertised (I double-checked the item number). It is a lopsided trillion, measuring about 4.5mm x 5mm. The color is decent for the size, a medium purple-blue with some lavender zoning. No red flashes, but since it’s so small, that didn’t surprise me. I trust that JTV does their best to provide a quality product at a good price, this one was just a stinker."

Fast Facts
| The mineral zoisite was discovered around 1805 in the Austrian area by a Baron for whom it was named. It was usually brown in color, often nearly opaque. |
| The discovery by accident of the tanzanite version, in the late 1960's was a great surprise in Tanzania Africa, where it was first thought to be sapphire crystals. |
| The name Tanzanite was coined by Tiffany who had first and exclusive rights to the pretty blue violet mineral for many years. |
| Wearing a well-cut Tanzanite communicates self-confidence, individuality, and maturity. |
Its brilliant color and its exclusive origin in Tanzania combine to make Tanzanite a unique and highly sought after gemstone. |
|
Tanzanite is a variety of zoisite. It has naturally occurring shades of blue, green, yellow, pink, brown and khaki but virtually all gemstone quality crystals are heat treated to produce the highly valued shades of sapphire blue, amethyst and blue violet. On Mohs’ scale of hardness, tanzanite is 6.5-7. The prime source of all the world’s tanzanite is in Tanzania near Arusha.
