Hessonite is the brownish-orange variety of grossular garnet. It has been called the "cinnamon stone" because of the rich amber color of gem-quality hessonite. This stone exhibits an unusual "heat wave" texture that resembles the illusion or pattern visible when heat is viewed rising from a distant surface. Hessonite can be found in Sri Lanka, Brazil, and California. It ranks 6.5 to 7.5 on Mohs' hardness scale.
