      Zandrite is a type of synthetic glass that was created by a major glass manufacturer. A developing scientist realized that the new creation had gemstone marketing possibilities and started a movement that began a new gemstone trend. It has 100% color change abilities, which is why it was given the name "zandrite"--a play off of the very expensive natural gem alexandrite. Zandrite ranks a slightly fragile 5 on Mohs', the same as glass.

      "I received this gemstone and i was amazed at how beautiful it was. It is a dark purple. I told the girls i work with i got my purple gemstone. I took it there with me and it was the most beautiful blue color. Everybody was like i thought this was purple and i took them outside to show them the purple. They were so amazed how it changed colors. Love it!"

      "I was really disappointed with this stone. I purchased two. The color change is so slight as to be non existent. When it is "purple" it just looks like a amethyst. This is the color it stays most of the time. Not worth the price."
