It has 100% color change abilities, which is why it was given the name "zandrite"--a play off of the very expensive natural gem alexandrite. Zandrite ranks a slightly fragile 5 on Mohs', the same as glass.

    "Dawn and Valerie were showing this stone on tv and I simply had to have it. I had no idea it would be so gorgeous and fun! In daylight it is a beautiful purple color all over. In artificial lighting it is completely blue, like topaz. The color change is instant and the whole stone changes. It is amazing. I love it! You can't beat the special price of $14.50 for a good-sized 3 carat stone!"

    "This is a very beautiful purple stone, but I have not been able to see any color change in any type of light. If you are buying it for that--don't, but if you want a very pretty purple stone to rival a deep dark amythest, this is it."
