Product Description for Min .25ctw 4mm Round Andalusite Matched PairThe name "andalusite" comes from Andalusia, a province in Spain where it was discovered. Andalusite is pleochroic, meaning it appears to be different colors when viewed from different directions, and is generally cut to enhance this feature. In fact, andalusite has such pronounced pleochroism that the colors can be seen simultaneously. Andalusite ranks a 7 to 7.5 on Mohs' scale and is found in lovely earth-tone colors like reds, greens, and oranges. It is mined in Brazil and Sri Lanka.

"I wasn't sure what to expect based on a variety of pictures I'd seen of this stone (including the image used for this product), but I am very happy with the earrings I received. They are somewhat small, but very sweet and pretty. As another customer noted, they do seem to look like the champagne diamonds shown on TV and in photos. My stones look like a cross between champagne and pale, pale chocolate with some version or mix of pink or reddish/cinnamon coloring, as well as some light green and some clear areas. I'm just really pleased. The stones seems very clean, well-matched and in great condition; looking forward to receiving my yellow gold earring castings!"

"One stone is beautiful and the other has is cracked, not a matched pair in my book. For the price I will not return them but use the good one in a pendant for a child instead of the earrings I had plans to make."

"I love the look of this stone. It is very pretty and would make a darling pair of earrings for a younger person. Unfortunately, I used bezel earring casting and I did not like the look of the bezel earring castings with this small of a stone.
The set of stones are beautiful and well matched."

Fast Facts
| Depending on the viewing direction, andalusite can appear olive green, rich reddish brown, or grayish green. |
| Unlike alexandrite, andalusite color changes are pleochroic and based on viewing angle - not lighting. |
| Andalusites are often cut so that the table is green with red or orange on the edges. |
Named after the Spanish city Andalusia, andalusite was first discovered in Spain.
|
|
Andalusite is a naturally occurring pleochroic gemstone. On Mohs’ scale of hardness, andalusite is 7.5. It has a vitreous or matte luster, and primary sources include Australia, Brazil, Canada, Russia, Spain (Andalusia), Sri Lanka, and the United States.
Color
Andalusite is typically found in yellow-green, green, or brownish-red shades. As the andalusite stone is rotated, different colors and different intensities of colors can appear, including olive green, rich reddish brown, or grayish green.
