"I love garnets of all colors but my biggest frustration is in finding the right color or shade of color in red/purple garnets. I very much wanted to own a pinkish red garnet such as rhodolite but many of the rhodolite that i've seen are too dark for my taste. So i decided to try almandite which is a sister species to the rhodolite. At first i was disappointed with the color. Indoors the stone looks very dark -- similar to your average rhodolite or red garnet -- but outside its a very lovely raspberry pink color. the color of the photograph is not really representative of the real color -- it is much more of a purple/pink or aubergine color than a light red color. the true beauty of the stone comes out in the sunshine or in bright lighting indoors. but I suppose most garnets (with the exception of the spessartite, tsavorite, and demantoid) are like that."
