    Diopside is primarily a green stone with a perfect prismatic cleavage, but it can also be found in brown and violet-blue hues.
    For a pure rich green color, a beautiful chrome diopside makes an excellent choice.
    When cut cabochon, fibrous diopsides produce a lovely cat’s eye effect.
    Some of the most beautiful chrome diopsides can be found in the blue ground of the Kimberly diamond mines and in the Mogok Stone Tract of Myanmar. Other sources include Finland, India, Madagascar, Austria, Sri Lanka, South Africa, and the United States.




    Diopside is from the pyrozene mineral group. Known for its pure green color, it also can be found in chrome, violet-blue, black, yellow, brown and colorless. It has perfect cleavage and on Mohs’ scale of hardness, diopside is 5-6. Sources include Burma (Myanmar), Finland, India, Madagascar, Austria, Sri Lanka, South Africa and the United States.
