Product Description for 10.50ct 20.92x8.42mm Rectangular Shape Color Change Diaspore. With Appraisal.-XTR469
Though it was first discovered in 1801 in the Ural Mountains of Russia, diaspore is a relatively new gem to the commercial market. It was first faceted in the 1970s; by the 1990s, it was difficult to find anything other than small pieces, and until 2005, it remained almost exclusively a collector's gem. Several issues surrounding the difficulty of mining the stone and mine ownership led to inferior goods being released to the market, as it is only found in one place in the world: a remote location in Turkey.
It wasn?t until around 2005 that our gem buyers saw truly exceptional Turkish color-change diaspore material, like this stone. This diaspore possesses a color-change phenomenon that is highly collectible and desirable. In addition to this unique feature and great color and clarity, these stones are superbly cut--rounding out the four most important value factors that we look for in any fine gem. Appraised at $26,250.
